Collection of Demeter Fragrances at the Look Boutique #LBDemeter

While scent is nice, I hate that many fragrances are overpowering and way too strong. Demeter, a perfume brand renowned for 300 unique scents, is changing the way perfume is made by offering a unique collection of fragrances that is also accessible and affordable. Now available at Duane Reade in Look Boutique, The Demeter Fragrance Library includes catchy fragrance names like ‘Dirt,’ ‘Soap.’ ‘Angel Food,’ ‘Fruit Salad,’ and so much more whose packaging reflects a simple title with very unique scents. This also includes fragrances that can be mixed and matched and wore together – offering subtle and natural notes throughout the various layers.

During a recent event, I had the chance to check Demeter’s new scents for spring and meet with Mark Crames, the CEO of Demeter, as I learned all about the new fragrances for spring as well as enjoy a crash course in fragrances and I have my very own scent blended.

New Spring Collection from #LBDemeter

For spring this includes scents like Vanilla Cookie Dough, Rice Paddy, White Sangria, Sunshine and more that all smell exactly like their name. I was surprised to discover subtle and natural notes with a light focus on the name of the perfume. It was refreshing as well as super feminine. The new collection also includes a Bath and Body line with Massage and Body oils, roller ball oils and diffuser oils to make your home smelling fresh.

During my conversation with the Mark, I was struck my his passion as he spoke about how his nose is always open to new scents. He mentioned discovering the scent rice paddy in Japan, and said that inspiration for his fragrances often come in unlikely places. He also mentioned his passion for simplifying fragrances by offering affordable perfumes to all women. He noted that women spend way too much money on fragrances that they never use because they are too expensive. As we spoke, I smelled various scents to find the perfect one for me. I mentioned that I like fruity and floral scents with some smoky tones. He blended a combined of Honeysuckle, Fuzzy Navel, Lavender and Daisy that I loved and was excited to wear. A passionate company that is devoted to clean scents with a focus on single notes, I loved learning more about the company and how it is accessible for the modern women.

Health Tips from Dr. Oz

Blogging never ceases to amaze me. I have had some pretty once-in-a-lifetime moments where I have attended cool events and had the chance to meet some of my favorite celebrities. One opportunity I recently had was the chance to meet Dr. Oz in NYC. I didn’t know that much about Dr. Mehmet Oz prior to meeting him. I knew (of course) that he was buddies with Oprah and that he wrote books but I didn’t realize how inspirational, genuine and incredibly smart he was until I attended a taping of his show (I’ll share more on that in a future post).

As part of a round table of bloggers, we covered topics about sleep, caffeine, sugar, tiredness, kids, vaccinations, sex, and his incredible incentive with Weight Watchers called Transformation Nation. Dr. Oz took his time with each of our answers and stated that the information he was providing wasn’t new or revolutionary; but rather, it was information that isn’t getting out to the public as well as information that people are simply not applying to their lives. Subtle changes like getting sleep and eating right has the power to transform and changes people’s lives where they will not only feel rested and energized but it can change their overall outlook on life. I definitely had a few ‘wake-up’ call moments during this chat that I hope to be applying to my own life (more on that as well). I’ll also be sharing more about this incredible visit over the coming weeks but for now here are some of Dr.Oz’s tips for well-being and overall health.

1. Sleep. Dr. Oz stated that he doesn’t set his alarm to wake up, but rather, he sets it when it’s time to go to sleep. This really resonated with me because I have been a walking zombie for the past few months. Although life with a baby has something to do with this, it also means that I should be hitting the hay earlier. In fact, Dr. Oz recommends that adults should get 9 hours of sleep every night. I’m not sure if I can get that anytime soon but shutting down and going to bed earlier is definitely manageable.

2. A Child’s Diet. I asked Dr. Oz about my daughter’s unwillingness to try vegetables. I used the term defiant but Dr. Oz said that a child actually has more taste buds than an adult where they crave sugar . He also said that his own children had an all-white food diet when they were small. He recommends that parents should have a child try a new food 12 times and not to give up if they seemingly don’t like something.

3. Caffeine. I am a coffee junkie. I think about my huge cup of coffee the second I wake up but I know I need to cut back, which may also help that whole sleeping thing. Dr. Oz stated that caffeine isn’t necessarily bad and he suggested switching to green tea, which is packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. I bought a new box of green tea and have been switching up my orders at the cafe.

4. Eating right. Dr. Oz eats the same thing every day. Although he said people call it ‘boring,’ it is what fuels him and keeps him energized. His breakfast of choice is FAGE yogurt (my favorite!) with berries an a green drink that is packed with spinach, celery, apples, etc. He also doesn’t recommend skim or no-fat products because when fat is taken out it is often replaced with sugar. He told the group that there is nothing wrong with a little fat in the diet and recommends low-fat or reduced-fat products.

Bionée: An Organic and Gentle Skincare Line

Organic Products from Bionee's Line

I have really sensitive skin, which as I have gotten older has meant that I’m (finally) learning what works and what products set my skin off. Anything too harsh can cause pimples, redness or irritation so I am always on the hunt for gentle AND effective products that can treat and calm my skin as well as those that do not contain harsh chemicals, dyes or synthetic ingredients.

I recently had a chance to test out and learn more about Bionée Organic Certified Skin Care, a line developed by Eva Asmar, a mom and cosmetics industry leader. Asmar started the line when she was pregnant with her first child, Gabriel. During a recent interview she elaborated why she started the company by stating, “I was not satisfied with the products available to me during my pregnancy and with my experience in the cosmetic industry I knew there was more out there to offer women.”

Eva Asmar, Founder of Bionée

The line developed to include certified organic beauty products for babies, mothers, and pregnant women using gentle and all-natural ingredients like leaf water, honey, rose water, horse chestnut, coconut oil and flower water ( to name a few). These ingredients as Asmar noted were selected based on values Bionée stands for such as those that are safe, efficient and pleasurable as well as those that are the most trusted natural ingredients from around the world. Adding, “our formulas are organic certified and FREE of carcinogens, any birth defect related ingredients, synthetic fragrances, phthalates, BPA and parabens.” The company also focuses on supporting underprivileged communities around the world. Asmar stated that she chose Bionée to support a small community in Argentina that supplies us with Organic Fair Trade Honey that is present in all of their products.

Since I interviewed Asmar during my pregnancy I was also curious how to better take care of my skin during this time. Asmar, who is also pregnant, noted that the best regime is to keep your skin “clean and radiant.” This involves cleansing the skin like with Bionée’s Purifying Facial Foam ($24.99). This rinse contains powerful antioxidant and a vegetal complex that is designed to calm irritated skin types and restore luster to dull and tired complexion.

Asmar also noted that every new mom should use Bionée’s Revitalizing Face Cream ($29.99). I actually used this during my pregnancy and it served as a tiny miracle in a bottle that really awakened my tired and lackluster skin by stimulating the skin and reducing the signs of aging. I loved how soft and smooth by skin and eyes felt in the morning – it actually looked like I had a decent night’s rest – despite how late I was actually up. She also noted that the Nipple Remedy, No Rinse ($9.99) is great to treat sore nipples that are often unavoidable during breastfeeding Featuring healing techniques from China, the nipple cream is actually sweet and safe for your baby containing gentle ingredients like water, olive water, leaf water – hence the reason why doesn’t have to be rinsed.

Asmar also went on to tell me about the products that are considered unsafe for babies. Here are some of her recommendations of what products to avoid:

-Avoid products with a PH level superior to 5.5.
-Avoid products with synthetic fragrances that might dry our your baby’s skin
-Avoid products with parabens or any ingredients that sound chemical to you. Short ingredient lists are usually safer.
-Look at the labels and buy certified products. A lot of “organic” products out there contain only very small amounts of the organic ingredients.
-Avoid chemical SPF products! Do not use aerosol SPF sprays.

While I can’t control my skin type, I’ m excited to have discovered a company that focuses on using safe, organic and natural ingredients that are also effective and calming for both me and my baby.
